Montegrappa salutes Dante Alighieri – writer of the Divine Comedy and father of the Italian language. Seven centuries after his death, Dante’s words still bedazzle all who read them. Now, ethereal handcraft honours the glory of his final book in precious metals. Welcome to Montegrappa's Paradiso.
Handmade in Italy's oldest pen manufactory, Dante Alighieri: Paradiso cannot be unseen. The final volume in the Divina Commedia series celebrates Dante’s virtuoso talent, sparing no effort to realise the splendour of his vision. Dante Alighieri: Paradiso continues the fine tradition of preceding editions, interpreting the style and content of Dante’s epic tale. Each is a microcosm of his ascent through the spiritual realm.
Barrel ornamentations narrate Dante’s pilgrimage, depicting the virtues he encounters with intricate micro-sculpture. Coloured stones represent each celestial sphere detailed in Paradiso. At the Primum Mobile – the final sphere –– nine orders of interlocking angels soar above a sky-blue Montegrappite core. Above, three shining discs represent the source of divine light.
The limited edition of sterling silver (333 pieces) encompass fountain pen and rollerball options. Both observe the poet’s use of the trinity as a lyrical and structural device.
The piston fountain pen has an 18 karat gold nib.
Italy's first pen manufacturer, Montegrappa, began manufacturing pens in 1912 in its factory in Bassano del Grappa - a picturesque town along the Brenta River, which flows through Alpine foothills in northeastern Italy. Utilizing natural celluloid and precious metals, Montegrappa combines traditional methods such as die-casting with more recent innovations as low-relief engraving to form their precious art objects. Whether they use colors reminiscent of the master painters or ornamentation suggestive of Baroque palaces, the Italian heritage and romance is infused into each product.
