The Eternal Bird is inspired by a 12th century painting which depicts the phoenix with a female figure. The phoenix, in Chinese mythology, was a mythological bird that reigned over all other birds. The Male's were called Feng and the Females were called Huang. However, in modern times that line has been blurred to create one feminine entity. The reason for this was so that the phoenix could be paired with the dragon, which has male connotations.
The phoenix sometimes takes the place of the rooster in the Chinese zodiac. It is a symbol of positive connotations such as high virtue and grace. In both ancient and modern times ornaments of the phoenix and dragon are seen in weddings and royal events, as they are a symbol of a blissful relationship.
